About the Photographer
Gordon Johnston is an avid kayaker and backpacker who writes about and takes photographs of the wilds he passes through. He is author of Seven Islands of the Ocmulgee: River Stories, published by Mercer University Press and Georgia Humanities in 2023, and of the poetry collections Where Here Is Hard to Say (Mercer University Press, 2023), Scaring the Bears (MUP, 2022), which won the Arlin G. Meyer Prize in Imaginative Writing from the Lilly Fellows Program in 2022), and Durable Goods (Finishing Line Press, 2022). He has also co-written Ocmulgee National Monument: A Brief Guide with Field Notes (MUP, 2017).
