Sweet Like
by Melissa Nunez
Honeybee—my name—and I was
expected sweet. As if it were always
meant others devour what I had mistaken
for my own. More, they tell me. More
than you can know. And again I’m lost
to ponder what I misunderstand. How
it is you eat of me, yet claim offering
inferior to action. And like queen I find,
when wintertime, I push you
out into the cold.
